Dr. Laura Mraz, OTD, OTR/L

Where are you from? I have lived in Chicago, IL for 12 years now and consider it my home. Growing up, I moved a lot and had the opportunity to live in Maryland, New Jersey, Utah, New York and even, Shanghai, China!
What did you study?After completing my Bachelors in Developmental Psychology, I continued my education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. At UIC, I completed my Masters and Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. My doctorate focused on relationship based practice and implementing the Intentional Relationship Model in pediatric practice and higher education.
What other special credentials do you have?I am a member of the SPARK Community Advisory Council (CAC)
Name the moment that inspired you to take your career path.I became inspired to become an Occupational Therapist in Shanghai, China. While a preschool teacher at an international preschool and kindergarten in Shanghai, I had the opportunity to work with an American Occupational Therapist who not only changed many of the children in my class’ lives, she also changed mine! I knew that her work was exactly what I was meant to do and it was that moment that I made the choice to dedicate my work life to Occupational Therapy.
What do you specialize in? I specialize in Pediatric Occupational Therapy, The Intentional Relationship Model, Sensory Integration and Healthcare Management.

Favorite therapeutic swing?The platform swing with a bungee.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment has been raising my young daughters while successfully growing Eyas Landing and Blue Bird Day. Although being a working mom is not always easy, I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

What skill are you most proud of? I am always the most proud when I can turn an escalating or emotional charged therapy event into a successful and fun therapy moment.
