Monal Patel, MS, OTR/L

Where are you from? Columbus, Ohio is home.
What did you study?I majored in Psychology with a focus on child development; I also minored in human development and family sciences.
Name the moment that inspired you to take your career path. That is the hardest moment to pin-point. I have always had an appreciation for how RESILIENT children can be; they have an intuitive nature, see the world in color and play with no boundaries. Knowing this magical power that children have, how could you NOT want to foster that global growth and development.
What do you specialize in? Sensory Integration, Psychosocial development, Play skills development, Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding, Reflex Integration Work, The Intentional Relationship Model
Coffee or Tea?BOTH!
Favorite therapeutic swing?ALL OF THEM. I couldn’t pick a favorite swing because I am a firm believer in using all types of movement as a resource for regulation, body awareness, and core activation.
What you do consider your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment is my independence- I moved to Chicago with a car full of clothes and a book shelf. A Masters education and a career that I am fully in Iove with have been the hallmarks of this move. I also find it empowering to have used the last 6 years in Chicago to establish myself, both professionally and personally. Though, be very aware that I talk to my family in Ohio daily, because I miss them so much!
Books or Movies?I wish I had more time for books. There’s a magic in being able to imagine a setting. Time frames and the ability to multi-task mean more movies in my life, lately.
Where would you go on your dream vacation? The Maldives
What is your favorite children’s book? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs ; Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Akzaban ; Chika Chika Boom Boom ; Rainbow Fish
What skill are you most proud of? Communication
